All throughout my school years I was heavily involved in Art and in college I pursued a degree in Art Education. I painted, sculpted and did oil pastel drawings. When I first started making cakes it became very clear to me that this was the perfect form of art. It combined all of the art forms that I loved and I got to see how happy people were to receive a cake from me.
I have taken all of the Wilton courses and use all Wilton based products. I rely heavily on Martha Stewart when it comes to cake recipes since her cakes are pretty hard to top. I make homemade buttercream icings. I currently purchase fondant and gumpaste but I am getting around to trying out fondant recipes so that may change soon.
When I make cakes for others I believe in really talking with them and getting to know them and all about the person the cake is being made for. I think it is extremely important for the person that has hired me to feel comfortable and that they have input. I would liken my approach to those of a wedding cake consultation. I want to make sure that everyones ideas get out there and then I try to work them into the cake. Before starting a cake I always try to provide a sketch so if there are any changes we can get those taken care of prior to the cake going in the oven and being decorated.
I want each cake to be amazing and each person to feel special and valued throughout the whole process. It's very much like a designer of couture clothing, each cake is different and is a one of a kind creation. You, as the customer are special and are treated like family. I feel that by doing it that way it is a win-win for everyone. I get to create a beautiful piece of art and you and your friends and family can enjoy it. Thank you again for visiting and look for more cakes to start appearing in the photo album. If you have any questions or would like to talk about a cake please email me at nonpareilpastries@gmail.co
Have a wonderful day!
